O JOGO DE IDENTIDADES EM O SANTO INQUÉRITO, DE DIAS GOMES

Resumo: Este artigo visa ao estudo das personagens que compõem a família Dias na obra O Santo Inquérito, de Dias Gomes. Avô, pai e filha marcam três gerações de uma família de origem judia, num contexto histórico adverso e de perseguição político-religiosa no qual se tornam cristãos novos. Assim, é analisado o jogo do esconder-desconhecer sua identidade judia, bem como a posição étnico-religiosa assumida em cada uma das três gerações, submetidas ao poder da Inquisição. Verifica-se se houve manifestações de criptojudaísmo nas personagens em questão ou se de fato ocorreu uma real conversão ao catolicismo. Observa-se ainda se e de que forma o conhecimento-desconhecimento das tradições judaicas por parte de Simão e Branca conflita com a identidade que lhes é conferida pela autoridade estabelecida.

Abstract: This article aims to study the characters in the Dias’s family in the work O Santo Inquérito by Dias Gomes. The grandfather, the father and the daughter mark three generations of a jewish family in a historical context of adverse, with political-religious persecution. They become new christians. The article analyses the game of hide and ignory of jewish identity, as well as the ethno-religious position taken on each of three generations submitted to the power of Inquisition. The study investigates if there were signs of judaism cripto in characters in question, or if indeed occur a real conversion to Catholicism. Also notices if and how the knowledge-ignorance of the jewish traditions of Simão and Branca conflicts by the established authority.
